ABOUT THE PROJECT

Built on curiosity.
Tested by experience.

After 40 years in IT, I want to share the skill that has helped me most: seeing how the whole system fits together.

The repair bench was
a good place to start.

My electronics training began in the U.S. Air Force, where I worked as an F-4 flight simulator technician. Those systems taught me to trace a problem through connected parts and test an idea against the evidence.

Later, as a technician in a personal computer store, I troubleshot and repaired the PCs people depended on. I kept building my own computers and home labs as the technology changed.

Over the years I worked across networks, systems, and identity, and earned certifications including CNE, MCSE, CCNA, and CISSP. Each area added another piece to the picture.

IT Systems in Plain English is my way of passing that perspective on.

SEE THE WHOLE SYSTEM.

WHO THIS IS FOR

Starting in IT

Help desk, desktop, and junior systems technicians who want a better next question.

Studying the pieces

Certification students who want to connect the concepts to practical problems.

Looking beyond a specialty

Experienced technicians who want to understand the layers around their own.

You do not have to know everything. You do need a way to follow the connections.

A SISTER PROJECT

Zoom in on identity.

Sign-ins, access, and account security are part of the bigger system. Explore SAML, OAuth, Kerberos, SCIM, and more with Identity in Plain English.
